Former Man Utd Coach Reveals Players’ Resistance to Change

Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Hake has shared insights into the challenges faced by Ruben Amorim as he tries to rebuild the struggling team.

Hake, who worked alongside Amorim’s predecessor, discussed the players’ attitudes toward adopting new playing styles. While some were open to change, others resisted altering their game.

Amorim, known for his successful 3-4-3 formation at Sporting Lisbon, is now trying to bring the same system to Old Trafford. However, his early weeks in charge have been tough, with setbacks testing his vision for the team.

Players’ Reactions to New Tactics

Hake highlighted how certain players, like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, were quick to adapt to new instructions.

“Rashford and Garnacho were eager to work on the timing of their deep runs,” Hake told Voetbal International.

With Bruno Fernandes, the focus was more on his positioning during build-up play. However, not all players were as flexible.

“Some players said, ‘I don’t want to change anything about my game right now,’ and that’s fine—you have to respect that,” Hake explained.

Casemiro’s Football Intelligence Stands Out

Hake also praised experienced players like Casemiro, who could play a key role in helping Amorim turn things around. Despite criticism during his second season, the Brazilian midfielder impressed Hake with his game awareness and mental resilience.

“Casemiro has incredible football intelligence. He can read the game and anticipate what’s coming,” Hake said. “Even after many attempts, he stays focused and executes perfectly.”

The Challenge Ahead for Amorim

To restore Manchester United’s form, Amorim will need to balance implementing his vision with understanding the players’ preferences and strengths. Relying on seasoned professionals like Casemiro might help stabilize the team as they navigate through this difficult period.

With time and the right mindset from the squad, Amorim could revive United’s fortunes and bring back the glory days fans are longing for.
